Soward Goes Way Above Average

Share

Freshman receiver R. Jay Soward averaged 43.3 yards per catch on his record-breaking day against UCLA on Saturday.

His 260 receiving yards on six catches easily surpassed Johnnie Morton’s school record of 229 yards on eight catches against Washington State in 1993.

He also broke the NCAA record for freshmen, 243 yards, by Darnay Scott of San Diego State set in 1991. And it was the most productive day ever for a Bruin opponent, topping the 257 yards gained by Washington State’s Dave Williams in 1965.
