Time to Look in the Mirror

The Kings’ inability to physically control opponents has been a problem during their current three-game losing streak. In Detroit’s 6-0 win Saturday, the Red Wings’ line of Brendan Shanahan, Steve Yzerman and Darren McCarty had their way far too easily for King Coach Larry Robinson’s liking.

“It’s not like they’ve got all big guys . . . they are about the same size as some of our forwards,” Robinson said. “Our big guys are just not doing the job.

“Craig Johnson, you can’t ask any more of him. He works his butt off. Ray [Ferraro] works his butt off when he’s out there. Dan Bylsma gives you whatever he has. [Ian] Laperriere, the same thing.

“Some others better take a long, long look in the old mirror. We sure aren’t getting leadership.”

The last time the Kings lost three in a row, they bounced back to go 5-1-3 over their next nine games. The Kings turned things around after blowing a 2-0 lead and losing, 8-2, at the Forum to the Edmonton Oilers, who they play Wednesday night.

After a scoring streak of goals in 11 consecutive periods, the Kings have scored only one in their last nine.
