Times Staff and Wire Reports

Borland International Inc. named Delbert Yocam chairman and chief executive to fill positions left empty after the software company’s founder and another executive resigned amid disappointing sales. Yocam, 52, replaces Borland’s founder, Philippe Kahn, as chairman. Kahn was forced out a year ago. Gary Westel left in July after spending 18 months as chief executive. Yocam is a former Apple Computer Inc. and Tektronix Inc. executive. Scotts Valley-based Borland, once the third-largest maker of software for the desktop, has been struggling for three years to overcome lower sales, product delays, competition from Microsoft Corp. and losses. Shares rose 62.5 cents to $7 on Nasdaq.
