Santa Anas Are Blowing Into Town

Santa Ana winds are expected to produce strong winds and gusts of up to 45 mph today across the coastal plains of Orange County, according to meteorologists.
The strong winds are expected to continue through Thursday morning before calming, but still occasionally gust up to 20 mph, said Daniel Dix, a meteorologist with WeatherData, a Kansas-based weather service that provides forecasts to The Times.
The high winds are caused by the collision of a developing low-pressure system over northern Baja California and a higher pressure system over the Northwest, Dix said.
Gusts of 35 mph were recorded in Santa Ana on Tuesday, and sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph blew throughout most of the county, Dix said.
