King update--They ended a three-game losing streak with an impressive 5-1 victory over Edmonton on Wednesday night. Goalie Byron Dafoe improved to 6-2 and came within 4.4 seconds of recording his second career shutout. Tonight’s game will be the Kings’ 24th and 15th on the road, the most in the NHL. The Kings are 0-4-1 in the second of successive games this season.

Flame update--After 20 games, Calgary was tied with San Jose as the most improved team in the NHL with a 9-9-2 record, a 10-point improvement over last season’s first 20 games. Since then, however, the Flames have lost four games in a row, including successive losses to Edmonton. On Tuesday, the Oilers crushed Calgary, 10-1. Rookie Sasha Lakovic will not play after being suspended for two games without pay and fined $1,000 for trying to jump into the stands to aid assistant coach Guy Lapointe, who had a drink and a bag of popcorn poured on his head during Saturday’s game at Edmonton.
