Crossed up: On the last play of Northridge basketball practice Monday, point guard Trenton Cross dribbled down the middle of the court, dodging several defenders, then cut to the basket and rolled a layup off his fingers.

The coaches looked at each other and surely thought the same thing: Where was that Saturday?

It was precisely what Cross was supposed to do when Northridge took possession, down by one with 12 seconds to play. But Cross made an errant pass, and the Matadors lost, 61-59, to Nevada-Las Vegas.

One and the same: During halftime of Pepperdine’s home basketball game against UC Santa Barbara on Monday night, the public address announcer informed the crowd that the game, which was televised by Fox Sports West, was also being shown “in Latin America and Argentina.”

Solid: The Pepperdine women’s soccer team finished 12-8, 5-2 in West Coast Conference play, placing the Waves in a three-way tie for second in the conference.

Pepperdine’s conference finish is its best in three years of membership. In four Division I seasons, the Waves are 41-28-5.

The Waves lose seven seniors to graduation, including career scoring leader Jennifer Evans. Evans, from Royal High, had 54 goals and 16 assists.
