PCH Drag Race Leaves 3 Dead

Three people were killed and four were hurt Thursday in a head-on crash on Pacific Coast Highway that was triggered by a drag race between a sports car and a motorcycle, Los Angeles police said.
Witnesses said the vehicles were racing north about 2:30 p.m. on PCH, north of Sunset Boulevard, when the car, a Porsche, crossed into the southbound lanes and struck a Mazda minivan.
“The Porsche and the motorcycle--they were revving their engines. The light turned green and they both took off,” witness Reno Lawrence said.
“The bike kept going straight and out of the corner of my eye I saw the Porsche cross the road and hit the van,” he told KABC-TV.
The driver of the Porsche was one of the three fatalities, police said. Other details remained hazy late Thursday and names of the victims were not immediately available. The driver of the motorcycle did not stop after the crash, witnesses said.
The four who were hurt, including an infant, suffered minor injuries, authorities said.
PCH was closed to traffic in both directions for five hours.
