“The Land Before Time Animated MovieBook,” published by Sound Source Interactive in Westlake Village, has received Newsweek magazine’s Editor’s Choice award.

The product was chosen as one of 50 best children’s CD-ROM software products. It is featured on Newsweek’s newly launched Parent’s Guide to Children’s Software 97 Internet site and is recognized in the magazine’s Fall/Winter 1996 Computers & the Family guide, available on newsstands through Jan. 12.

“By recognizing children’s software products that are entertaining, informative and educational, we are providing parents with an objective guide to make sense of the maze of titles on the market today,” said Michael Rogers, executive producer of the Newsweek Parent’s Guide.

Sound Source partnered with Universal Studios to produce the animated movie on CD-ROM. The tale of young dinosaurs’ search for the Great Valley is told in 10 animated landscapes through narrated text, character animations and full-motion video clips directly from the movie.

As they wind their way through the story, fans can test their knowledge of dinosaurs by playing various games.

In winning the Editor’s Choice award, “The Land Before Time” was deemed to be among the best children’s software in six categories: creativity, learning, problem solving, reading, adventure and reference.

Sound Source products are distributed in North America by Simon & Schuster Interactive Distribution Services.
