King update--Through the first quarter of the season, the Kings’ penalty-killing unit ranked among the best, but it slumped in a 5-3 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday. On seven power plays, the Blackhawks scored three goals. Even so, goalie Byron Dafoe lost for only the second time in his last eight starts. Defenseman Rob Blake has two goals and two assists in his last three games.

Coyote update--With consecutive home victories over New Jersey and Calgary last week, the Coyotes nearly doubled their victory total at the America West Arena, where they are 5-7-4. They are tied for last place in the Western Conference with Toronto and the Mighty Ducks with 20 points. In 24 games, Phoenix has scored only 57 goals, worst in the Western Conference. But the Coyotes have scored seven in their last two games.
