Navy Seeks Volunteers for Cleanup Oversight

Share

The Navy is accepting applications from community members interested in serving on an advisory board overseeing the cleanup of hazardous substance disposal sites at the Naval Weapons Station.

The 22-member board is made up of volunteers from Orange and Los Angeles counties willing to help in the investigation, cleanup or remediation activities required at the station, officials said.

The committee, part of the Department of the Navy Installation Restoration Program, is overseen by the California Environmental Protection Agency.

Beth Crinigan of the weapons station’s environmental division said the two-year terms of several advisory board members will expire early next year, and vacancies are expected.

Potential committee members must live or work in the communities surrounding the weapons station and attend all meetings. Regular sessions are the second Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. on the weapons station grounds. Information: (310) 431-4760 or (310) 626-7608.
