Red Line Extension

“Legislators Oppose Firm for MTA Job” (Nov. 26) left the impression that I support the selection of a particular contractor for the construction of Metro Red Line’s Eastside extension. The article also implied that I consider the ongoing criminal investigation by MTA’s inspector general to be an “unnecessary delay” in the procurement of a management contractor for this project.

In both cases, the characterizations are mistaken. My purpose has always and only been to promote the timely and prudent completion of this phase of the Eastside extension. I do not favor one contract bidder over another. I do, however, support and insist upon a deliberate, transparent and punctual selection process. Furthermore, a criminal investigation, where there is evidence of wrongdoing, is always warranted and should never be impeded. Period.
