Teenager Held in Carjacking, Theft
A Burbank teenager is scheduled to be arraigned today on charges of carjacking Vice Mayor Bob Kramer’s daughter at gunpoint outside the family home last month, police said Tuesday.
Steven Navarro, 19, of N. Maple Street, was being held on $100,000 bail pending his arraignment in Burbank Municipal Court, said Police Lt. Larry Koch.
Koch said Navarro was accused of pointing a gun at Julie Kramer, 22, and then stealing her new Honda Civic, a purse, jewelry and about $70 at about 12:30 a.m. Nov. 3. Kramer was outside the family’s Andover Drive home at the time, he said.
On Monday afternoon, officers tracked down Navarro after he allegedly used a telephone calling card taken from Kramer, Koch said.
The vice mayor, who said he was thankful his daughter was not injured, said the incident shows that people must be alert even in low crime areas.
“It just demonstrates that no matter how safe a city is, you can still be a victim of violent crime,” he said.
