Author James Ellroy will read from his new novel, “My Dark Places,” at Bar Marmont in Hollywood on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. as a benefit for Naked Angels’ latest theater project set for 1997, “Gunplay,” a collection of original plays sponsored by the Hand Gun Control Inc. foundation, exploring the issue of guns.

Benefit hosts include actress Gina Gershon (“Bound”) and Helen Sugland (producer of “The Tuskegee Airmen”).

A $50 contribution includes admission to the reading, a signed copy of Ellroy’s book and cocktails.
