Long Beach Launches Waterfront Project

Share

Taking another step to transform the Long Beach waterfront, city officials on Thursday broke ground and officially christened Rainbow Harbor as part of the 300-acre Queensway Bay project.

Financed by a $40-million loan from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Rainbow Harbor project will expand and deepen the existing harbor and lagoon just off Shoreline Drive.

As part of the construction project, a pier will be built at the end of Pine Avenue in downtown Long Beach to provide a permanent dock for the tall ship Californian. Other docks and berths will be built in the harbor to provide moorings for dinner cruise boats and commercial fishing and diving vessels, city officials said.
