Duck update--A few weeks ago, a Duck-Penguin matchup would have matched teams of similar strengths and weaknesses, but that’s no longer the case. The Ducks have superior goaltending, sharper defense and are 5-1-2 in the last eight games because of it. Coach Ron Wilson wasn’t immediately sure whether he would start Guy Hebert for the eighth consecutive game in goal. Mikhail Shtalenkov could spell Hebert, undefeated in four in a row. Left wing Paul Kariya has points in a season-high eight consecutive games. He strained his left hip in the first period Friday against Buffalo.

Penguin update--Jaromir Jagr scored his league-leading 25th and 26th goals and added an assist as Pittsburgh rallied from a two-goal deficit to gain a 5-3 victory at Washington on Friday. He has a seven-game goal-scoring streak, tops in the NHL. It’s also his second streak of six games or longer. Mario Lemieux scored his 574th goal and passed Mike Bossy for eighth on the all-time list. Goaltender Ken Wregget, who started 15 consecutive games, suffered a shoulder injury and was replaced by rookie Patrick Lalime.
