Los Angeles police on Monday identified a body discovered in a backyard cesspool over the weekend. It is that of Escadio Ascencio Estrada, 56, a day laborer who had 10 children.

A group of day laborers on Sunday found Estrada in the backyard of a home in the 8000 block of Troost Avenue. An unidentified man had driven up in a pickup truck and told them the body was there, said LAPD Det. Mike Coffey.

Estrada, who had suffered blunt force trauma to his upper body, lived alone at the house.

“The owner felt sorry for him and let him live there so that he wouldn’t have to live on the streets,” Coffey said.

Estrada, who was last seen alive Wednesday or Thursday, is survived by his wife and children in Mexico, Coffey said. He typically waited for work at the corner of Lankershim Boulevard and Strathern Street.

No arrests have been made in the case and no new details have emerged regarding the identity of the man who told the workers about the body, Coffey said.
