Johnson Might Be Lost for the Season

Left wing Craig Johnson, who has been sidelined most of the season because of an abdominal injury, will be examined today in Boston by University of Massachusetts surgeon Bill Meyers. Johnson, who had abdominal surgery earlier this season, may be lost for the season.

On Monday, the Kings announced a $1-million, six-year commitment to all of the YMCAs in Los Angeles County to help fund roller hockey programs. Starting with four local YMCAs, including Culver City and Gardena, the Kings plan to build roller rinks and provide equipment for youth programs around the area.

Defenseman Doug Zmolek will not play tonight against Pittsburgh because of a right shoulder strain, suffered in Saturday night’s victory over Colorado at the Forum.

Coach Larry Robinson was pleased with right wing Vitali Yachmenev’s effort in Saturday’s victory over the Avalanche. Yachmenev did not score but he made his presence felt with strong play all over the ice.

“It was his best game in about a month and a half,” Robinson said about Yachmenev. “He was much much more aggressive and he did some great things with the puck.”
