Top officials from the National Football League spent the past two days in Southern California meeting with people interested in luring pro football back to the region.

Roger Goodell, the NFL’s senior vice president for league development, and Jerry Richardson, who chairs the league’s stadium committee, visited Los Angeles City Hall Wednesday and spent two hours meeting with City Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas, who is spearheading an effort to build a new stadium inside the historic walls of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the meetings were “just another step in the process.” Ridley-Thomas characterized the session as “constructive,” but would not elaborate on what progress was made.

“What we are really doing is deepening the level of cooperation so we can bring the NFL back to Los Angeles and into the Coliseum,” Ridley-Thomas said. “We had a nice two-hour conversation toward that end.”
