Detectives with the Ventura Police Department arrested John Robert Delatorre Wednesday in last week’s fatal stabbing of Kenny Wayne Beardsley of Ventura.

Police found Beardsley on the living room floor of his bungalow in the 600 block of Sheridan Way Dec. 5. Beardsley, 32, had been stabbed in the chest. Doctors pronounced him dead shortly after his arrival at Ventura County Medical Center.

An investigation led police to Delatorre, said Det. Sgt. Gary McCaskill. Delatorre, 27, was arrested without incident while riding a bicycle on the west Ventura street where the slaying occurred.

Delatorre, whose mother lives in Ventura, is considered a transient who has been in the city for about six months. He has been jailed in the past on theft-related charges, McCaskill said. Detectives have no motive as yet.

“We haven’t had anyone step forward and say this is what it’s about. . . . It’s a mystery to us as well,” McCaskill said.

Delatorre, who was booked into Ventura County Jail, is being held on $250,000 bail.
