It’s Still Wait-and-See for Hebert

Goaltender Guy Hebert practiced Thursday for the first time since suffering a concussion Monday but wasn’t sure whether he would be ready for the Mighty Ducks’ game against the Washington Capitals tonight.

“I feel pretty good. Not bad, but still a little weird, a little dizzy,” Hebert said. “I’ll talk to the doctors and seek their medical expertise.”

Hebert was considered questionable for the game after an examination Thursday afternoon by team physician Ron Glousman. An MRI exam was normal.

Backup Mikhail Shtalenkov is available and Mike O’Neill, called up from the Long Beach Ice Dogs as the emergency backup, is still with the team in case the decision this morning is that Hebert shouldn’t play.

Hebert played a big role in the Ducks’ recent surge, with a 1.37 goals-against average during a stretch in which the Ducks went 6-1-2.

Exploratory surgery is a possibility if left wing Shawn Antoski’s strained hip and groin do not heal soon.

Antoski is something of a stranger among the Ducks. He has not practiced with the team, arriving in a Nov. 19 trade and suffering the injury Nov. 20 in his only game as a Duck.

“I’m lost. Living in a hotel,” Antoski said. “While the team was gone, I’d come in and there’s no one here, a dark, cold rink.

“I hope [the injury] heals and I don’t need surgery. That’s scary. It sets you back in terms of how long it takes to recover.”
