Leading-Scorer Robinson Is Questionable

Share

Wendell Robinson, UC Irvine’s leading scorer, is questionable for the Anteaters’ game against USC Sunday because of a sprained foot.

Robinson, a 6-foot-8 junior forward, is averaging 14.5 points and 7.3 rebounds. He was injured during a running drill in practice Tuesday.

The Anteaters (0-4) are already without starting forward Brian Johnson, who has missed one game because of a sprained toe on his right foot. Johnson, a 6-6 freshman, is expected to be out at least one more week.

If Robinson cannot play, the Anteaters will start either freshman Andrew Carlson or senior Dan Augulis. Augulis, a 6-10 center, is available for Sunday’s game after missing the Anteaters’ first four games because of a knee injury. He started 22 games and averaged 2.1 points last season.

Senior guard Ken Simpson, who has been out with a knee injury, has also been cleared to play.

Irvine plays USC at 2 p.m. in the Bren Center.

Jeremy Koop and Kyle Anderson have signed letters of intent to play volleyball at UC Irvine, Coach Charlie Brande said Friday.

Koop, an outside hitter from Manhattan Beach Mira Costa, was All-America the last two seasons. He helped Mira Costa win the Southern Section Division I title last season.

Anderson, an outside hitter from Esperanza, was an All-Sunset League pick last season.
