The artist still generally known as Prince did not make many copies of his new “Emancipation” triple album available as promotional “freebies” for members of the press. But the ones who did get it also got an unusual request that they give something back.

Included in the press kit accompanying the set was a note asking those who got the album for free to make a donation to the artist’s Love 4 One Another Charities supporting children and those in need of medical care.

And the response? Prince’s attorney, Londell McMillan, says that it’s too soon to comment on any actual numbers, but at this point the take is not very impressive.

“The amount of contributions so far hasn’t been overwhelming,” he says. “There are a number of people who have expressed support or the concept, but they haven’t had time to make the check payable to date.”
