The IQs Dropped as Fast as the Mercury

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Uh . . . Uh . . . Uh . . . Uh . . . Uh . . . Oh, Yeah, The Scene: MTV’s dynamic duo hit the big time Sunday night at Mann’s Chinese Theater as they celebrated the world premiere of “Beavis and Butt-head Do America,” a feature-length animated film, wherein the boys take a cross-country odyssey and have many adventures --some of them kewl, others that suck--while they un-successfully try to accomplish what they’ve been trying in vain to do for years on the TV series: score.

The film is directed by Beavis and Butt-head creator Mike Judge and features his voice as well as those of Robert Stack, Cloris Leachman, Eric Bogosian and others. Afterward, the guests followed a searchlight beaming a giant Cornholio silhouette to a bash at the Palace.

Who Was There: The event attracted a crowd of more than 1,000. Familiar faces and names included, from the film, Judge and gravel-voiced Untouchable Stack. Joining them were Roseanne, Quentin Tarantino, Red Hot Chili Pepper Dave Navarro, MTV President Amy McGrath and Paramount studio boss Sherry Lansing with husband William Friedkin.

Chow and Entertainment: Multiple buffets served up Chinese “takeout,” burgers, pizza and nachos. Live music was provided by the soundtrack artist, Isaac Hayes.

Overheard: Just about every Beavis and Butt-headism was uttered by the otherwise mature-looking party-goers as they seemed to have fallen under the influence of some kind of mass IQ regression.

Ooh, Baby, Come to Butt-head: The evening’s emcee, Carmen Electra, was a snowy vision in her white ankle-high platform boots; white Diesel jacket with fur cuffs and collar; white, thigh-hugging Dolce and Gabbana slacks; and white-framed Gucci shades.

Thermally Challenged: Dressing more for an August afternoon than a December’s evening, Tarantino arrived inexplicably in a short-sleeved shirt and shorts. With the mercury dropping, the director was forced to return to his car to fetch a jacket.

Quoted: “Yeah! This movie kicked ass,” enthused lead actor Beavis, channeled through director Judge. “And there’s going to be a sequel and I’m going to score.” Co-star Butt-head disagreed. “Huh-huh-huh-huh-huh,” he opined. “This movie sucked. And in the next movie, I’m going to score.”
