Stunt to Highlight Burn Group’s Work

Share

Two Orange County firefighters hope to lift public awareness of Orange County burn victim programs this week by raising themselves 30 feet in the air for three days.

Starting Friday, the firefighters plan to perch themselves in the bucket atop a firetruck extension ladder to draw donations and attention to the Orange County Burn Assn., organizers said.

The annual stunt at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa follows 9 a.m. opening ceremonies that feature local leaders and fire agencies from throughout the county.

The Burn Assn., based in Orange, uses donations and volunteers to help burn victims recover and return to workaday lives. The association also has a school reentry program to help youngsters grappling with the aftermath of burns.

The association also is sponsoring a Christmas party and reunion today for burn survivors and their families at the Garden Grove Community Center. About 300 survivors will be reunited with firefighters, doctors, nurses and therapists who helped them in their recovery effort. The 2 p.m. event will also feature visits by Santa Claus and Wild Wing, the mascot for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

For more information on either event, or to make donations or volunteer, call the Orange County Burn Assn. at (714) 456-8938.
