Kissing Student to Be Parade Star
The 6-year-old boy punished for kissing a girl has been chosen to be the grand marshal of Saturday’s local Christmas parade, angering teachers, who call it a slap in the face.
Twenty-three educators signed a letter in a local newspaper denouncing Johnathan Prevette’s selection by the Jaycees, which is organizing the parade.
Johnathan, a first-grader, had been separated from his class at Southwest Elementary School for a day and banned from an ice cream party after kissing a classmate in September.
After the story made national headlines, the school system changed its sexual harassment policy to exclude young children, except in extreme cases. Parade chairman Benny Sims said the Jaycees were sticking by Johnathan.
