Vanbiesbrouck Pads Lead

Florida Panther goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck was the leading vote-getter in the Eastern Conference in fan balloting for the Jan. 18 NHL all-star game, the league said. With 200,457 votes, Vanbiesbrouck far outdistanced Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils, with 95,131.

Gretzky leads centers with 125,793 votes.

Steve Heinze, who has 17 of the Boston Bruins’ 87 goals, is expected to sit out at least six weeks after suffering knee, hip and groin injuries in a 6-4 victory Tuesday night at Pittsburgh, and teammate Sandy Moger, who has six goals, will be sidelined eight to 12 weeks after surgery Wednesday for a fractured right elbow, his third fracture in three seasons with the Bruins. . . . The San Jose Sharks traded defenseman Yves Racine, 27, to the Calgary Flames for future considerations. Racine has 36 goals and 171 assists in 402 games with the Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers, Montreal Canadiens and Sharks.
