Location, Location, Location?

Yes, that’s the real Disney World you’ll see for a couple of crucial scenes in “Marvin’s Room.” It’s rather jolting at first to see Goofy et al in the midst of this movie about dying with dignity.

In fact, it is the first time a Disney theme park has been used in a movie. But the filmmakers thought it was essential since the crux of the story takes place in Florida, and in the play on which the film is based, the family takes a needed break in the happiest of places. Producer Scott Rudin says the magic here happened because Miramax’s Harvey Weinstein personally pleaded his case to his boss, Disney Chairman Michael Eisner.

“Marvin’s Room” co-star Meryl Streep groans when asked what she thought of it.

“Do I dare say?” she says with a laugh. “There isn’t a book long enough to say what I think. But I have four children, so I guess I’ll be going there the rest of my life.”

Rudin denies that the whole thing was a Disney marketing ploy: “Don’t forget, someone has a near-death experience there in the movie--so I don’t know if that’s considered good publicity.”
