Actor Charlie Sheen was arrested early Saturday morning at his scenic hillside Agoura home after a woman told sheriff’s deputies that he assaulted her.

The unidentified 24-year-old woman told authorities that Sheen pushed her to the floor during an argument at his house around noon Friday, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Carrie Stuart.

The woman then fled the estate in the 1800 block of Olivera Drive and went to a doctor’s office, where she was released after receiving seven stitches in her lip, Stuart said.

The woman reported the incident at 6:30 p.m. Friday to deputies at the Lost Hills station, Stuart said. After a brief investigation, deputies obtained a search warrant and arrested the 31-year-old actor on suspicion of assault at his home without incident early Saturday, Stuart said.

Sheen posted $20,000 bail two hours later and was released, Stuart said. Neither Sheen nor his publicist was available for comment.

At the actor’s home near Malibu Lake on Saturday afternoon, a person who identified himself as a friend of Sheen disputed the woman’s claim.

“They were in the kitchen having a discussion when Charles got on the phone,” said Cameron Johnson, who said he was in the house at the time. “She got upset and started arguing with him. She then tried to head-butt Charles and he grabbed her. They started tussling and then they fell to the floor. That’s how she got hurt.”

Surrounded by security cameras as he stood behind the estate’s front gate, Johnson said the woman had been dating Sheen and questioned her motives.

“This is just a matter of her going to her girlfriends and them telling her she could get some money from it,” Johnson said. “Charles is not a violent person.”

The actor, who has starred in such movies as “Platoon,” “Wall Street” and “Major League,” became a central figure in the U.S. District Court trial of former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss last year. After being granted immunity, Sheen testified that he solicited prostitutes from Fleiss at least 27 times, shelling out more than $50,000.

Sheen is scheduled to be arraigned in Malibu Municipal Court on Jan. 7 in the current case.
