Saxophone player Eulalio Cervantes of the Mexican rock group Maldita Vecindad was being held Saturday at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department West Hollywood station, after he was arrested for allegedly kicking a security guard while performing at the Universal Amphitheater.

The 28-year-old musician was expected to be arraigned Monday in Beverly Hills Municipal Court on charges of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, according to Sgt. Doreen Thigpen.

The security guard, Vince Woods, 26, of Los Angeles was treated at Providence-St. Joseph Medical Center for back pain and released, the sheriff’s spokeswoman said.

She said Cervantes stepped into the crowd while performing Friday evening and when he “jumped back” on the stage, he kicked one of the theater’s security guards in the back.

“We don’t know the motive because he hasn’t been interviewed yet,” Thigpen said.
