Chief of Marketing Is Named by Vans

* Jay E. Wilson has joined Vans Inc., an Orange footwear and apparel maker, as vice president for marketing. He was formerly a marketing consultant for Dark Horse Distribution, whose product lines included Grind King skateboard trucks, Haz Mat snowboards, Underdog Shoes, Society Skateboards and Belladonna women’s wear. Prior to that, Wilson was a managing partner and marketing director at Brand Building Communications in Beverly Hills.

* Timothy W. Hart has been named to the newly created position of president and chief executive of Bates USA West. He will oversee all business activity, expansion and development of Bates’ West Coast operations, including its offices in Irvine, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Hart will be based in the Irvine office. Before joining Bates, Hart was managing partner and chief operating officer of Fathom, formerly Ketchum Advertising.

* George V. D’Arbeloff has been elected to the board of directors of BioLase Technology Inc., a San Clemente manufacturer of surgical and laser products. He succeeds Gordon Werner, who resigned from the board. D’Arbeloff is chief executive of Retail Solutions Inc., developer of an inventory control and scanning-based computer system.

* Matthew A. Sauer has been appointed vice president of human resources administration for Ingram Micro Inc. in Santa Ana, a wholesale distributor of technology products and services. He succeeds Harold Pierce, who left the company in September. Sauer’s position will be expanded to cover both U.S. and worldwide operations. He most recently served as corporate head of human resources at Southland Corp. in Dallas. In addition, Terry L. Tysseland has been named to the newly created position of vice president of distribution operations. He will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the company’s nine U.S. distribution centers. Tysseland previously held the post of division president of the McLane Co.

* Todd Nicholson, president and chief executive of the Orange County Business Council, has resigned. He will remain until a replacement is appointed. The council was formed in May 1995 after a merger of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce and the Industrial League of Orange County. It has 1,500 member companies representing 350,000 employees. Nicholson was previously president of the Industrial League and the Greater Irvine Industrial League.

* Ray Robidoux has been appointed senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Cerplex Group Inc., a Tustin provider of high technology outsourcing services. Robidoux, who joined Cerplex in March, previously held positions at Westinghouse Electric and AST Research, where he directed U.S. channel sales and customer service. Robert McFarland, previously senior vice president of sales, has resigned to accept a position at Dell Computer.
