Year-Round Schooling Under Consideration

Share

The city school district’s efforts to reduce class sizes and general overcrowding has prompted discussions about implementing year-round schooling.

The district’s Board of Education met recently to discuss the possibility of starting year-round schools, and reviewed statistics on boundary realignment, student population growth and class size reduction.

The board also assigned an administrator, Regina Caine, to research year-round schooling.

Board member Jane Bauer said that year-round schooling will probably be implemented in Tustin at some time, but not until at least 1998.

“The reality is that at some point we will do that” schedule year-round classes, Bauer said. “But after hearing the concerns and issues, it’s obvious that it’s not something you can go into quickly.”

Bauer said that officials will continue to study the issue, including receiving weekly reports from Caine and scheduling meetings at individual school sites.
