Can’t Leave Zim Off Obituary List
The Times’ obituary list that ran with Mike Downey’s “Year in Review” is pathetic even for a paper famous for its short sports memory. The continued neglect of former sports editor Paul Zimmerman, in particular, is an outrage. For three decades, he was the most important media figure in the West. You put four other media friends that did make the list--Chet Forte, Dan Hafner, Allan Malamud and Al Stump--all together and they still don’t add up to one-tenth of what Zim meant to the city of Los Angeles or L.A. Times readers.
