Vasquez, Solorio in Feature Bout on Irvine Card
A rare Saturday night boxing card at the Irvine Marriott features junior featherweight David Vasquez of Blythe and Martin Solorio of Tijuana in the eight-round main event. Vasquez (10-2, seven knockouts), who normally fights at the Forum, has won his last four bouts by knockout. Solorio, who stopped Marriott favorite Johnny Vasquez in seven rounds last April, is 13-5 with seven knockouts.
In the semi-main event, lightweight Nacho Navarro (2-0, two knockouts) of Los Angeles faces Gustavo Tapia of Westminster, who is making his professional debut, in a four-round bout. Navarro is the younger brother of promising featherweight Carlos Navarro, who made his professional debut at the Marriott last summer.
The undercard, which begins at 7:30, features heavyweight Lamon Brewster (3-0, three knockouts) of Los Angeles against Fabian Mesa (4-1-1) of Van Nuys. Brewster was the runner-up at the 1996 U.S. Olympic trials and is managed by former professional football player Willie Gault.
Tickets for the show will be on sale today at the Marriott and are priced at $25, $30 and $35.
