UCLA Steals Away With Rout

Freshman Maylana Martin scored 17 points and had four of UCLA’s 19 steals and freshman Janae Hubbard came off the bench to score 14 points and grab 12 rebounds as UCLA defeated New Orleans, 90-59, Sunday.

Carly Funicello and Tawana Grimes added 11 points each for the Bruins, who won both of their games in the Pac-10/Sun Belt Challenge at the Sports Arena over the weekend.

In the second game of the night, Shea Lunsford had 17 points, 11 rebounds and five steals to lead No. 9 Western Kentucky (7-2) to an 85-82 double-overtime victory over USC (6-3).

Michelle Campbell scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for USC. Jodi Parriott came off the bench to score a career-high 22 points and Tina Thompson had 21 points and nine rebounds for the Trojans.

In the earlier game, Grimes also had nine assists and three steals.

UCLA (6-3) scored the game’s first 15 points in leading all the way while forcing 39 turnovers and committing 28.

Jenny Anderson led New Orleans (4-5) with 15 points.
