Former Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.), who was treated for prostate cancer in 1991, appears in a new a public service TV ad urging greater awareness of the disease.

“I may have lost a race to the White House, but five years ago I won an important one against prostate cancer,” the 1996 GOP presidential nominee says in the ad released Thursday. “For me, early detection was the key, so I urge all men to discuss prostate cancer with their doctors.”
