Yiannis Pipis; World’s ‘Most Durable Musician’

Yiannis Pipis, 105, a Cypriot violinist honored as the world’s most enduring musician. Orphaned at 8, Pipis grew up playing the violin at village weddings and feasts. He was still playing when he turned 100, earning the designation as the world’s “Most Durable Musician” in the 1991 Guinness Book of Records. Pipis was honored for his contribution to Greek folk music by the Greek Academy in Athens and by the Cyprus Education Ministry. He also won several prizes at Greek and international music festivals.
