Simon Leads Arizona Past Arizona State

Guard Miles Simon scored 11 of his 22 points in the first nine minutes of the second half to lead No. 14 Arizona to an 87-71 Pacific 10 Conference victory over Arizona State on Wednesday night.

Simon also had a career-high nine rebounds and five steals.

Arizona State, 10-12 overall and 2-7 in the Pacific 10, shot 59% in the first half to take a 36-30 lead but fell apart when top scorer and floor leader Jeremy Veal picked up his fourth foul 1:21 into the second half.

With Veal, who had 19 points in the first half, on the bench, the Sun Devils committed turnovers on nine of their next 10 possessions, allowing the Wildcats (14-5, 7-3) to go on a 17-2 run that produced a 49-41 lead with 15:34 left. Veal finished with 27 points.
