Residents Invited to Town Hall Meeting

The city’s influence, or lack thereof, over projects just outside its borders will be one of the topics discussed at a town hall meeting Saturday.

The Moorpark City Council will meet with residents at the Arroyo Vista Recreation Center at 10 a.m. to discuss city goals, preservation of the local greenbelt and the possibility of expanding the city’s sphere of influence.

The last two topics were chosen because of a recent string of county decisions that have drawn fire from Moorpark citizens. Opposition from city leaders failed to block county approval of one golf driving range in the Tierra Rejada greenbelt and another just across the street. Nor could the city convince Ventura County supervisors to sharply limit the number of trucks a gravel mine north of the city could add to local roads.

In response, council members Wednesday discussed expanding Moorpark’s sphere of influence, a move they hope would give the city more authority over projects just outside city limits. The council delayed its discussion until the town hall meeting to solicit more citizen input.

The recreation center is in Arroyo Vista Community Park at 4550 Tierra Rejada Road.
