Fullerton Man, 53, Critically Hurt in Motorbike Accident

A 53-year-old Fullerton man riding a motorbike was critically injured Thursday afternoon when he collided with a car that apparently ran a red light, police said.

The rider of the Honda motor scooter, who was not identified pending notification of his family, suffered major head wounds and was declared brain dead Thursday evening at UCI Medical Center in Orange, according to Fullerton Police Lt. Tony Hernandez.

The rider was hit and thrown from the bike at 4:45 p.m. as he drove west on Lakeview Drive through the intersection at Euclid Street, police said. Witnesses told police the driver going north in an Acura struck the motor scooter after running a red light.

The was not cited at the scene of the crash, but the case will be submitted to the district attorney’s office for review and possible charges, Hernandez said. The rider of the motor scooter was wearing a helmet, he said.
