Zmolek to Play Sunday Despite Heart Problem

Defenseman Doug Zmolek, who left Monday’s game at Calgary because of an irregular heartbeat, has been cleared by team doctors to play Sunday at Dallas. This is the second time in the last three years that Zmolek has had the problem and King officials said he will be closely monitored.

Forward Ian Laperriere, who sat out the last two games because of a hip injury, is listed as probable for Sunday’s game. Forward Yanic Perreault, who did not play in Wednesday’s 3-2 loss at San Jose because of a back injury, is questionable. . . . Defenseman Aki Berg will sit out his second consecutive game because of a concussion but probably will play Tuesday at Colorado.

Dimitri Khristich suffered an injury to his right eye during practice Friday and will sit out the next two games. Forward Roman Vopat was recalled from the Kings’ minor league affiliate, the Phoenix Roadrunners. Forward Barry Potomski was assigned to Phoenix for disciplinary reasons. Forward Yanic Perreault is questionable because of a back injury.

Forward Nathan LaFayette, whom the Kings acquired in a trade with the New York Rangers last year, was recalled from Syracuse of the American Hockey League. LaFayette will replace Kai Nurminen, who suffered a leg injury against the Sharks and will not play Sunday.
