Residents Sought for Advisory Panel

Share

With city leaders gearing up for the latest round of efforts to revitalize the aging downtown, the City Council has invited residents to apply for an advisory panel that will suggest ways to pump new life into the area.

The 12-member group will join Moorpark officials in crafting plans that will govern development of the city’s downtown, a once-thriving commercial area that has lost many of its shops and restaurants.

The city has commissioned a consultant to explore ways to help the area. A draft of the consultant’s long-awaited report will be reviewed by the City Council and Planning Commission during a joint meeting Feb. 26.

But Mayor Patrick Hunter said the city should also hear suggestions from Moorpark residents, for whom the downtown’s deterioration has long been a sore point. “I think you’ll find many of the best suggestions come from the residents.”

Those interested in serving on the panel should either pick up an application at City Hall, 799 Moorpark Ave., or call 529-6864 and have a form mailed to them.

Forms must be returned to City Hall by 5 p.m. Feb. 28. The council will decide which applicants serve on the panel.
