TeWinkle Middle School students recently spent a day at Orange Coast College for a tour of academic, professional and sports programs.
About 50 students made their way around campus to watch a basketball game, check out aquariums in the marine biology department, examine an electric car built by engineering students and munch on pizza baked by culinary arts students.
“A campus visit like this really opens their eyes,” said Mike Murphy, assistant principal at TeWinkle. “They develop a feeling for just how dramatically a college education can change a person’s life.”
The tour was led Jim Carnett, community relations director at the campus, who said the goal is to encourage students to think about college well before high school.
