With just a few months remaining before this year’s Valley Fair, the 1996 edition received seven awards from the Western Fairs Assn. at its 74th annual convention in Palm Springs.

The fair took first place in the categories of excellence in education, new special events, children’s programming, sponsorship program, nontraditional revenue-generating programs, manuals and handbooks-commercial exhibits, and concessions and programs / scheduling of events. It finished second in innovative agricultural programs.

“It is a great tribute to all the staff and many volunteers who work so hard every year to make the fair a quality, professional production,” said Jane Boeckmann, president of the 51st District Agricultural Assn., the state-supervised board that runs the fair.

“In these constantly changing times, it is important to move forward while preserving our heritage and resources,” added Dale Coons, manager and CEO of the association.

The fair’s board of directors recently decided to move the dates of the fair from August to June. This year’s event is scheduled for June 5-8.
