Supervisors Agree on Creek Plan
The Board of Supervisors agreed this week to work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other government agencies to address erosion and water pollution at San Juan and Aliso creeks.
A draft study by the corps found that the erosion threatens to kill aquatic life in the creeks, worsen water quality and eat away at public infrastructure such as bridges and pipelines. The erosion has already caused several sewer lines to break, polluting beaches.
With the board’s action, the county and other agencies will soon begin identifying ways to reduce erosion and improve water quality.
“This is a remarkable project that demonstrates government at its best,” Supervisor Thomas W. Wilson said. “It will allow us to work together to develop a comprehensive master plan for our two most challenging South County watersheds.”
