A Compton man who had been kidnapped and held for ransom was found shot to death Friday and police arrested two men who allegedly picked up the ransom money, authorities said. They were not identified.

Mario Vasquez, 26, was watching television with his wife Thursday night when he answered a knock on the door and several people forced their way in. The assailants tied up his wife and ransacked the home, punching holes in the walls in an apparent search for unspecified items.

The men beat Vasquez and drove him away in his 1979 Chevy Suburban. The wife freed herself and called police.

Less than an hour later she received a telephone call from a person who demanded $30,000 and narcotics in exchange for the release of her husband.

Police began surveillance of the drop-off site in Compton, and just before 3 a.m. Friday discovered Vasquez fatally shot in his truck.
