SAN FRANCISCO--Exotic blooms will flourish Saturday and Sunday at the 45th annual Pacific Orchid Exposition. There will be 60 exhibitors with 100,000 orchids, as well as musical performances. 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at the Festival Pavilion, Ft. SANTA CRUZ--Chefs will serve up a little nuttiness along with the soup at Saturday’s annual Clam Chowder Cook-Off. Entrants have been known to dress as lobsters, mermaids and King Neptune. Cooking begins at 10 a.m.; tasting at 1 p.m. $5 buys a kit with coupons for five tastes and an entry blank to vote for your favorite chowder booth. TAHOE CITY--Snowfest provides 120 wintertime events from Feb. 28 to March 9. Highlights include a torchlight parade and fireworks at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28 at Squaw Valley resort; a March 1 parade at 11:30 a.m. through Tahoe City, with equestrians and the Snow Shove Drill Team; and a Polar Bear Swim at 2:30 p.m. March 1 at Gar Wood’s Beachin Carnelian Bay. IMPERIAL--The city’s annual Mid-Winter Fair is Feb. 28 through March 9 at the Imperial Fairgrounds, California 86 and 2nd St. There will be food vendors, music, pony rides, 4-H exhibits and a Renaissance area with jousting demonstrations. 4-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday; noon-11 p.m. Sunday. $6 for adults; $3 for those over 60 and children 6-12.
