28-Year Police Veteran Is Named New Chief
City officials on Tuesday appointed a 28-year Police Department veteran as the city’s new police chief.
Daryll Thomann, 56, succeeds Manny Ortega, who was placed on leave last year by the city administrator after the police union took a vote of no-confidence against him. Ortega officially retired this month.
Thomann, who will earn $90,706 a year, vowed to “provide the best law enforcement” for the community. He has served as acting chief since June.
Mayor Norman Z. Eckenrode expressed support for the appointment. “He always is concerned with what goes on within the city,” Eckenrode said. “And we need that.”
