Doctors Regulate Zmolek’s Heart

Defenseman Doug Zmolek had his heart electrically regulated Tuesday after he was admitted to Centinela Hospital in Inglewood on Monday morning because of an irregular heartbeat,

Zmolek, 26, who has faced this problem at least twice before in his NHL career, left the hospital Tuesday. Rather than put him on medication, team doctors have decided he should increase his mineral intake.

Left wing Kevin Stevens, who became a parent for the first time last week, returned to Los Angeles before the Kings’ 6-1 loss at Phoenix on Tuesday because of personal reasons. . . . Defenseman Mattias Norstrom, who suffered a mild concussion in Monday’s 2-1 loss to Dallas, played against the Coyotes.

The Kings will not have different uniform colors next season because they did not file their request before the league deadline. The team now plans to make the change for the 1998-99 season.
