Kindergarten Class Sizes to Be Reduced
The Ocean View School District will reduce kindergarten class sizes to no more than 20 students in each classroom, starting this fall.
Trustees voted unanimously this week to take advantage of a state program that gives a bonus to districts for each student in a class with 20 or fewer students. The district has already reduced class sizes for first, second and third grades.
The district will start immediately to seek the 20 teachers it will have to hire to implement the plan, Supt. James Tarwater said.
“Our biggest concern is getting qualified, good teachers,” he said.
