Council Seeks Input on Next Year’s Budget

Share

The City Council on Monday will seek residents’ opinions on what projects should be in the next fiscal year’s budget.

“We’re going to tell residents some things that are being considered and see if there is any broad support for such things,” Mayor Tom Carroll said. “This will give residents an opportunity to speak on how the budget should be spent.”

Carroll, who was elected in 1994, campaigned on a platform of seeking more public involvement in decisions made by city government. In an interview this week, Carroll said he suggested the public hearing to increase resident involvement.

“This is a step in that direction,” Carroll said. “Sometimes we propose things, and nobody is interested. Do you remember my proposal about [regulating] leaf blowers recently? I proposed that, and no one spoke for it, so it died.”

Carroll said the council will outline some possible goals and projects for the fiscal year that begins July 1. Residents will then have a chance to give their viewpoints, he said.

Also Monday, the council will seek public comment on whether the Gig, a record and book store at 9191 Valley View St. near Cypress College, should be allowed to offer live music on Friday and Saturday nights.

The store has requested permission for poetry readings and live bands.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. in chambers, 5275 Orange Ave.
